CZECH REPUBLIC CLUSTER

Brno University of Technology

Research
It is the second largest technical university in the Czech Republic. It comprises 8 faculties with more than 23,000 students and 3,000 staff members. The Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) provides education in the Bachelor and Master Study programs in Computer Science and Engineering and the Doctoral study program in Information Technology. Research activities include embedded intelligence, runtime analysis, cyber physical systems, model-based validation, hardware-accelerated image and video processing, human-computer interaction, distributed and parallel systems, and knowledge technologies. 

CAMEA, spol. s r.o.

CAMEA, spol. s r.o. (Ltd.) (CAM), is the Czech market leader in the development and production of embedded systems for specialised applications in traffic monitoring and industrial quality control. The company was founded in 1995 as a private company with Czech ownership. It currently employs over 40 people out of whom over 30 are working in the research and development areas. The company is active in the development of automated code generation for the particular domain of image processing and computer vision and model-based run time methods for  sensors and signal processing devices, hardware-accelerated high-performance computing, and their large-scale deployment in traffic monitoring and enforcement.

Universitat Oberta de Catalunya

Research
A state-of-the art technological university with a highly innovative learning model, providing a benchmark for quality in both teaching and R&D. This is the philosophy of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC, Open University of Catalonia), created in 1994 as one of the world’s very first completely online higher education establishments and that currently has more than 50,000 students. IKERLAN

Research
IKERLAN is a private non-profit Technological Research Centre in the north of Spain. It is the key technological R&D actor within the Mondragon Group, Spain´s tenth-largest industrial corporation, and its 300 employees provide advanced technology transfer to industry. IKERLAN works closely with companies to improve their competitiveness, through the application of technological knowledge in mechatronics, energy and advanced manufacturing. Typical projects involve interdisciplinary work from different knowledge areas to face complex problems. As a centre of excellence in the transfer of technology, more than 800 R&D projects were completed so far in cooperation with companies where advanced manufacturing played a central role.

Fent Innovative Software Solutions

SME
FentISS is a technological company experienced in partitioned systems, for real-time and critical embedded applications. The use and development of embedded systems is a growing trend in critical ones. Therefore, partitioned systems as a solution to raise safety and security in these embedded systems are having good acceptance in the market. FentISS’ hypervisor, XtratuM, has been developed to reach that market of embedded systems, where the requirements from the point of view of security, dependability and reliability are mixed.

ClearSy System Engineering

SME
Established in January 2001 ClearSy System Engineering (CSY) is a SME specialised in the development of safety critical software and systems mainly in the railways. CSY has developed or contributed to a number of CASE and engineering formal tools and also provides dedicated tools like supervision (SCADA), simulation, and diagnosis software. Engineering activities include: The realisation of worldwide projects committed to achieving results in the design and/or validation of systems and software and a technical support activity in the fields of formal methods and operational safety. CSY engineers are skilled in various engineering domains (systems, mechanics, electronics, software, operational safety) and apply IT tools and an electronic laboratory to create prototypes and conduct trials. Collaborations with laboratories and industrial partnerships ensure the production of the various systems components (sensors and interfaces).

ARMINES

Research

ARMINES (www.armines.net) is a private non-profit research and technological organisation (RTO) funded in 1967 at the instigation of its partner engineering schools, the Ecoles des Mines network. ARMINES currently shares 48 Joint Research Units (Common Research Centres) with its partner schools, where each legal entity, either private or public, provides personnel, investment and operating resources for common research purpose. Under the supervision of the French Ministry for Productive Recovery, ARMINES is bound by French government-approved agreements to its partner schools of the Ecoles des Mines network: Paris (Mines ParisTech), Albi-Carmaux (Mines Albi-Carmaux), Alès (Mines Alès), Douai (Mines Douai), Nantes (Nantes IMT Atlantique) and Saint-Etienne (Mines Saint-Etienne). ARMINES also collaborates with ENSTA ParisTech. Nantes IMT Atlantique is the center involved in this project.

Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour

The “University of Pau and the Adour Region” is a multi-site university localized in the south west of France where more than 11 000 students are studying various disciplines. Its computer science laboratory, the LIUPPA, is composed of 33 permanent researchers and teachers.  The LIUPPA, mainly through its MOVIES team, has a strong experience on Software Engineering and Model-Driven Engineering. Its areas of research notably deal with software architecture, software adaptation, software requirements, system engineering or model-based software development. The MOVIES team conducts academic researches but also in collaboration with the industry through various projects, consulting or PhD supervisions. It is member of the Aerospace Valley World Competitiveness Cluster of the South-West region of France

Smartesting Solutions & Services

Established in January 2015 by the acquisition of the technologies of the former company Smartesting, Smartesting Solutions & Services SAS (SMA) is a model-based testing technology provider focused on technical areas such as IT systems, electronic transactions, security components, embedded systems and distributed systems. SMA has developed a cutting edge technology to provide smart testing tools to validate, among others, complex and embedded systems. The interests in relation to the MegaM@Rt project is to extend this technology to address online testing at runtime. The current staff is 10 including R&D and professional services. SMA headquarter and R&D are located in Besancon (France) with business location in Paris.

TEKNE s.r.l. is a medium size enterprise, present in Italy with around 80 employees (main sites Chieti, Guastalla (RE), Poggiofiorito (CH)). TEKNE is a reliable and qualified partner in design and production of custom electronic systems, advanced technological solutions and systems, military and industrial vehicles. Founded in 1990, TEKNE offers his clients a 20-year-experience in the field along with the passion of young and prepared technicians.  TEKNE provides technological solutions designed for several markets such as Civil security, mobility and terrestrial transports, Protection and surveillance of critical infrastructures, Wire harnesses, patch boards and electromechanical systems, Lifting machineries, Defense systems and solutions and Special purpose military and industrial vehicles.

Università degli Studi dell’Aquila

The University of L’Aquila is one of the most prestigious universities in the central Italy, whose origins can be traced back to 1464. In 2012, the University of L’Aquila has restructured its teaching and research facilities, opening seven new Departments which promote, coordinate, organize and carry out research and academic teaching. International research at the University of L’Aquila has achieved great successes over the last few years, particularly with respect to European funding. The UNIVAQ team involved in the MegaM@Rt project belongs to the Department of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics (DISIM, http://www.disim.univaq.it) and to the Center of Excellence DEWS (Design methodologies of Embedded controllers, Wireless interconnect and Systems-on-chip, http://dews.univaq.it).

Industry Intecs SpA (www.intecs.it), founded in 1974, provides innovative software&hardware technology, engineering services and products for dependable safety- and mission-critical electronic systems. Intecs Solutions is a company part of the Intecs  Group which addresses activities related to the design and development of applications, tools, software, hardware components and products for Aerospace, Defense, Transportation, Telecommunication and Smart Systems markets in cooperation with major European and Italian Industries, Organizations, Universities and Research Centers.

Åbo Akademi University

Research

Åbo Akademi University offers both undergraduate and graduate studies and extensive research opportunities to some 7000 students on three campuses. Åbo Akademi University has an acknowledged position at the forefront of research in such areas as biosciences, computer science, democracy, human rights, material sciences, process chemistry and psychology. The research project will be carried out within the Computer Engineering (CE) subject at the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Turku Centre for Computer Science (TUCS).

SICS Swedish ICT Västerås AB

Research

SICS Västerås consists of a flexible group of researchers with strong connections to universities and other Swedish research institutes. SICS Västerås has well-established research profile in several areas including; embedded systems, the future of internet and services, industrial efficiency, optimisation, systems and software engineering, future energy, innovation and product realisation. SICS is a non-profit organization and carries out advanced and focused research in strategic areas of computer science, in close collaboration with Swedish and international industry and academia. The research creates cutting-edge technology, invigorating companies beyond their own R&D. Such collaborations also puts SICS in a strategic position to facilitate and increase the knowledge and technology transfer between academia and industry.

Mälardalen University

Research
Mälardalen University (MDH) is a research institution located in Västerås, Sweden. The project work will be conducted as part of the embedded systems (ES) research environment at MDH. The ES research environment is the largest and most prominent at MDH, where it is recognized as a center of excellence. ES has a successful track record of co-production with industry and is a holder of many national and international research projects, including Artemis and ITEA2 projects. ES consists of six cooperating research directions: (1) Dependable systems, (2) Real-time systems, (3) Robotics and avionics, (4) Sensor systems and health, (5) Software engineering, and (6) Verification and validation. The project will be conducted in the research direction of verification and validation and will be part of the software testing laboratory (STL). STL at MDH focuses on industry-relevant research in software testing, verification and validation. The focus of activities at STL is on developing, refining and evaluating methods, theories and tools for testing of complex software-intensive systems. The lab includes two full professors, one associate professor, one researcher, one senior lecturer and four PhD students.

The company participating in this project, Bombardier Transportation   Sweden AB, is the Scandinavian part of the train designing division “Passengers” within Bombardier Transportation (the division represents about 70% of Bombardier Transportation turn over). The Scandinavian software developing department within division Passengers contains roughly 25 SW developers and 25 Test engineers.
